On October 11th Grant and I got married. In the months leading up to the big day I was pretty worried about what kind of weather we would end up with. Grant and I decided early on to have an outdoor ceremony and *fingers crossed* take advantage of the fall foliage. We must have put some good karma out into the universe because we couldn't have asked for better weather. It was the most beautiful day. An October wedding can be risky in Edmonton because you never now when the first snow will arrive. It's not unheard of to have snow in September. Thankfully, mother nature was kind to us this year and held off in the snow department until November.
I really loved our ceremony. We had the perfect wedding commissioner, Carillon, who Grant and I felt really "got us". We collaborated by writing our own vows and Carillon suggested early on that we include a Quiach ceremony to add some Scottish tradition. Grant's parents were both born and raised in Scotland so Grant grew up in a pretty Scottish environment. He played drums in a pipe band for 10 years so this wasn't his first time in a kilt. The guys all looked pretty dashing in their full kilt attire. Our incredibly talented friend Mark, played Bron-Yr-Aur by Led Zeppelin on acoustic guitar for our processional and Never Going Back Again by Fleetwood Mac for the recessional.
Grant and his mom made all of our decorations for the ceremony. Grant built the folding chalkboards and the chuppa while his mom handled the floral decorating. We had so much help from our friends and family getting everything ready and making the day go as smoothly as possible. We can't thank you all enough. More to come!
